Inspired by the dusk of an autumn evening, darkness falling, and firelight glowing through the window, The Macallan Easter Elchies Black reflects the welcoming warmth and luxurious experience to be found in both the home and spirit today
On the nose it is has fresh green apples, toffee, lemon and orange citrus, Subtle hints of peat smoke with cardamom and liquorice. To taste it has fresh fruit, apples and citrus with a lingering sweet peat flavour. The finish is medium dry with lemon citrus, apples and a soft sweet peat smoke.
On the 2nd June 2018 Macallan opened their new £140 milllion disitllery in the grounds of Easter Elchies Manor House. It was designed by a London based company, Rodgers Stirk Harbour + Partners and has the most complicated roof structure in the world. 1,800 beams, 2,400 roof elements and more than 380,000 individual components. 95% of the energy used at the distillery will be from renewable resources.
Macallan name comes from Gaelic. Magh meaning ‘fertile ground’ and Ellan which is a reference to St Fillan who spent time in Scotland in the eighth century. The distillery was established 1824.
