This Macallan 25yo is the annual 2018 release.
Once filled with The Macallan’s ‘new make’ spirit, the casks lie undisturbed for over twenty five years. It is the oak casek that gives this whisky all of its natural colour and makes the greatest contribution to the quality, distinctive aromas and flavours of this single malt of great richness and character
On the nose it is citrus balanced with cinnamon, sherry and wood smoke. To taste it is full and rich, with dried fruits and a hint of wood smoke. The finish is long, with dried fruit, wood smoke and spice.
On the 2nd June 2018 Macallan opened their new £140 milllion disitllery in the grounds of Easter Elchies Manor House. It was designed by a London based company, Rodgers Stirk Harbour + Partners and has the most complicated roof structure in the world. 1,800 beams, 2,400 roof elements and more than 380,000 individual components. 95% of the energy used at the distillery will be from renewable resources.
Macallan name comes from Gaelic. Magh meaning ‘fertile ground’ and Ellan which is a reference to St Fillan who spent time in Scotland in the eighth century. The distillery was established 1824.
