NOSE

THIS REFILL SHERRY CASK IS RICH, WITH LIGHT FLORAL NOTES  INITIALLY, THEN PEACH AND HONEY. HINTS OF STEWED FRUITS DEVELOP OVER TIME FOLLOWED WITH RICH SHERRY NOTES.

TASTE

CREAMY, FRUITY AND SWEET. SLIGHT SPICES ON THE TONGUE THEN WARM AND SATISFYING. HINT OF TOASTED ALMONDS. ADD A COUPLE OF DROPS OF WATER AND THE SPICES OPEN UP ALONG WITH TROPICAL FRUITS AND VANILLA

WARMING VANILLA AND FUDGE, STEWED FRUITS AND VERY, VERY SATISFYING

AS WITH EVERY CASK BOUGHT BY ROBERTSONS FOR THEIR AWARD WINNING RANGE, THEY ARE SINGLE CASK, NATURAL COLOUR, NON CHILL FILTERED AND AT CASK STRENGTH.  EACH BOTTLE IS INDIVIDUALLY NUMBERED ENSURING THAT THE BOTTLE YOU PURCHASE IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD.

THE LABEL PAYS HOMAGE TO THE PROVENANCE OF THE WHISKY, IDENTIFYING THE YEAR OF DISTILLATION AND YEAR OF BOTTLING.  EACH WHISKY IS COLOR COORDINATED TO IDENTIFY THE REGION OF ITS ORIGIN.  FOR THIS HIGHLAND WHISKY IT IS PURPLE.

BLAIR ATHOL DISTILLERY IS LOCATED IN PITLOCHRY AND IS OWNED BY DIAGEO.  IT PRODUCES A 12YO WHISKY AS WELL AS BELLS BLEND.

THE DISTLLERY WAS FOUNDED IN 1798 BY JOHN STEWART AND ROBERT ROBERTSON (NO CONNECTION TO OUR SHOP), IT WAS ORIGINALLY NAMED ‘ALDOUR’ AFTER THE ALLT DOUR BURN TH DISTILLERY DRAWS ITS WATER FROM, BUT CLOSED SOON AFTER OPENING.  THE DISTILLERY OPENED AGAIN AND CHANGED OWNERSHIP TO JOHN ROBERTSON IN 1825.

THE DISTILLERY CLOSED DOWN IN 1932.  THE MOTHBALLED DISTILLERY WAS BOUGHT BY ARTHUR BELL AND SONS BUT DIDN’T OPEN AGAIN UNTIL IT WAS REBUILT IN 1949.  IN 1973 THE DISTILLERY EXPANDED, ADDING TWO STILLS TO THE EXISTING TWO.
