Another year, another greatly anticipated 18 year old Macallan single malt matured in Sherry casks from Jerez, Spain. This is the 1996 vintage and it’s just as gorgeous as previous bottlings.
Bottled at 43.2% abv.
Colour: Burnished gold
Nose: Creamy barley and maple syrup. Vanilla custard and crème brûlée. Cashews and hazelnuts. Stewed apples and orange round the entire experience off with lovely fruity sweetness.
Palate: Milk chocolate, almond and olive oil blend. Chardonnay brings a lovely fruit and leads right into a citrusy lemon pie. Fudge and pastry. The whole thing finishes off with a lovely hit of baking spices.
Finish: Slightly floral leads a parade of spice, but the entire chorus ends with subtle, creamy sweetness, returning us full circle to the custard and crème brûlée.
