Description
With the Macallan 1950 s Travel Range Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky, Macallan imitated the style of its whiskies from the 1950s and sold exclusive limited editions on the worldwide travel retail market in 1999-2001. The collectable range of four Macallan variants, recreated by the Macallan master distiller David Robertson, reflects the style of The Macallan in the 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s and the distinctive packaging features a classic mode of travel from each era.
To recreate the taste of the Macallan as it was in the 1950 s, sample bottles from that decade were opened and their aroma and flavour matched with more recent distillations. During the 1950 s, Spanish oak Sherry casks became available again following the disruption of World War II, allowing the Macallan to revert to using only first and second fill casks. This resulted in a whisky that was as rich and spicy as modern day Macallan, but with a hint of peat smoke. Jim Murray scored the Macallan Fifties bottling 92 points in his Whisky Bible and the range was rated by Michael Jackson, the renowned international whisky writer, in the Malt Whisky Companion as being Amongst the highest of any malts.
The deep mahogany-coloured Macallan Highland Single Malt shows the classic characteristics of the Macallan from the 1950s in a wonderful way and makes it one of the outstanding and today particularly sought-after bottlings of the Macallan Travel Range series.
