Description

A vatting made from ‘pillaged’ whisky from Ardbeg, Bruichladdich, Bowmore, Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Lagavulin, and Laphroaig distilleries. Kevin Campbell (Lagavulin Fund Raisers) put together a team to row to each distillery to ‘pillage’ whisky for the vatting which was bottled at Bruichladdich distillery bottling hall.

Islay Pillaged Malt-10 year old-2003On the 4th and 5th of July a team rowed 12 miles around Islay picking up 25 litres of 10 year old cask strength whisky from each distillery: Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Bruichladdinch and Bowmore. During the journey the spirit was vatted and auctioned off to raise funds for Cancer Research and the Islay Lifeboat.

2003 Pillaged Malt: This 10 year old whisky is 70cl and bottled at 57.1% Only 25 litres from each of seven distilleries were ever produced. It is bottle number  73.

2005 Pillaged Malt: This 12 year old malt is 70cl and was bottled at 55.8%. It is bottle number 105 of 500.

2007 Pillaged Malt: This bottle is a 14 year vatting of whiskies from Jura, Bunnhabhain, Caol Ila, Ardbeg, Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Bruichladdich and Bowmore. It’s 70cl and bottled at 51.6% Bottle number 153 of only 250. The bottle comes in a neat presentation box with pictures of those involved and a leaflet explaining about the Pillage.

The last ever of the series of Pillaged Malts, this 3 Isles Classic Pillage is a vatting of bottles from Tobermory, Jura and Ardbeg and was achieved on 8/9/10. Ten years old and 70cl, this was bottled at 55.3%. This is bottle 184 of only 200 bottles.

In 2003,2005, 2007 and 2010 Lagavulin distillery worker Kevin Campbell and a team of charitable Ileachs rowed around the coastline of Islay, collecting malt whisky from each of the island’s seven distilleries. The whisky was duly married in casks and bottled at Bruichladdich before being offered for sale via the internet. The ten-year-old Islay Pillaged Malt of 2003 raised £25,000 for the RNLI and the Macmillan Cancer Relief Fund.
